EDUCATION STUDIES COURSES
(ES)
Presented by
David Lazear
BACK |
|
The
Education Studies Courses are for professional educators, teachers,
administrators, and all those charged with creating educational
programs to enhance learning in the formal school setting. Doing
more, harder, and faster of what hasn’t been working for many years
is not the answer.
Multiple intelligence (MiQ) brings some very new and refreshing
pieces to the process of school transformation and educational
reform: new approaches to lesson planning guaranteed to reach every
student; new approaches to curriculum integration guaranteed to help
students develop their full intellectual potential; new approaches
to assessment guaranteed to help students perform and demonstrate
their learning.
MiQ gives you a virtual kitbag of tools, strategies, techniques,
and models for using A Different Kind of Smart! to become “A
Different Kind of Teacher”! |

Eight Ways of Knowing
Tap the full intellectual potential of your students and watch
their learning soar!
BACK |
Throughout our lives we have been given
some very misleading and frankly dangerous information about our
intelligence and what makes us smart. The IQ story provides a very
narrow picture of our full intellectual capacities. This seminar
provides an in-depth, research-based, experiential understanding of
multiple intelligence. It focuses on practical ways to implement the
multiple intelligences to transform the classroom and school into a
place of high-level creativity where students’ full potentials are
tapped. |

Eight Ways of Teaching
Teach So They Remember and Use It for the Rest of Their Lives!
BACK |
Can you think of times when you were
teaching a lesson and you looked out at “sea of blank faces” and you
realized you weren’t getting through to your students, but you knew
if you had the right set of strategies you could reach them all?
This seminar is about reaching every student, every time. It deals
with the art of daily lesson planning from a multiple intelligences
standpoint. You’ll work with actual upcoming lessons and learn how
to restructure both your teaching and students’ learning so that
many more levels of knowing, understanding, and learning are tapped
in and through daily lessons. |

Multiple Intelligence Approaches to Assessment
Learn what makes students tick intellectually and how to use
this information in assessing academic progress
BACK
|
Every teacher has had the experience of
a students who genuinely understands information being taught but
when it comes to the test, they can’t produce it. So they fail. But
who has really failed here? Not the student. Not the teacher. This
is a failure of the test! This seminar examines current
assessment practices in our schools from the perspective of the new
paradigm of assessment that is rapidly emerging in education today.
This new understanding of assessment is based on practical
applications of state-of-the-art educational research, contemporary
brain-mind research, and multiple intelligences. The seminar focuses
on identifying students’ “intelligence profiles” and on the process
for creating “multimodal” assessments to gain a more accurate
picture of students’ academic progress. |

Eight Pathways of Learning
Teach Students About the Eight Kinds of Smart and Supercharge
Their Learning!
BACK |
When you ask your
students “Did you know you’ve got Eight Kinds of Smart which are
already inside of you?” they will be enthralled. It comes as a new
and exciting self-knowledge. Their self-esteem is boosted. Their
esteem for their fellow classmates is raised. They suddenly can
become advocates for their own learning. They become more active and
responsible learners. This seminar
focuses on the how tos of teaching students about multiple
intelligences as part of their regular school experience. It also
deals with how to help parents more fully understand the theory and
practice of multiple intelligences. The seminar focuses on the
process for creating curriculum-based learning exercises to help
students get to know themselves intellectually and techniques for
activating the full spectrum of their own eight intelligences in
school and in their lives beyond school. |

The Intelligent Curriculum
Help Your Students “Be All That They Can Be” - Intellectually!
BACK |
What does your curriculum really value?
Does it reflect the importance of developing the whole child? Does
it value developing the Eight Kinds of Smart in your students? The
good news is this does not necessarily involve major curricular
content changes. Rather, it is a matter of literally “embedding” the
capacities of the different intelligences in the existing
curriculum. This seminar focuses on an in-depth understanding
of the distinct capacities for each of the eight intelligences and a
four distinct models for integrating these capacities into the
existing curriculum on a school-wide or departmental basis.
The seminar assumes that this task can be accomplish without
“add ons” to the curriculum. Rather, in and through the existing
curriculum students can be taught how to tap their full intellectual
potential. |

The Rubrics Way
Create “Intelligence-Fair” Assessments and Deepen Your Students
Learning!
BACK |
There is a fallacy which abounds in
almost all approaches to education in our world today. It says. that
if you can’t produce your learning in a logical way, on a written
test, you haven’t really learned it. However, some the most
brilliant people, in positions of leadership, who are making
profound contributions to our world, weren’t very good at the
“paper-and-pencil stuff” in school. This seminar deals with the
how tos of creating rubrics for multiple intelligence-based
assessments. It focuses on the process of creating assessments which
move beyond the current biased assumptions of the
“linguistic-mathematical fallacy” which controls almost all of our
current assessment practices. The seminar provides an opportunity to
step inside of a new assessment paradigm in which instruction and
assessment are understood as “two sides of a single coin.

Higher-Order Thinking the MI Way
Teach So They Remember and Use Your Information
for the Rest of Their Lives!
BACK |
The ability to simply reproduce facts,
figures, statistics, and other information does not constitute
learning. A famous teacher once said, “If you don’t know how to
apply your learning, you haven’t really learned it!” You’ve got to
move students beyond “The facts ma’am, nothing but the facts!” to an
understanding of process and dynamic relationships, to an
understanding of application in ordinary, everyday life. This
seminar examines how to teach students to think, reason, and learn
at higher-order levels by using the full range of the capacities of
the eight intelligences. It provides participants with an in-depth,
research-based, experiential understanding of multiple intelligence
and how to use multiple intelligences get students thinking and
understanding curricular concepts at higher-order levels where
integration, synthesis, application, and transfer of learning
occur. |
